How to Develop a Human Rights Policy

Overview

The UN Global Compact and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights call on companies to respect internationally recognized human rights standards. As the basis for embedding their commitment to respect human rights, the UN Guiding Principles state that companies should develop a policy statement, setting out the policies and processes in place to identify, prevent, mitigate and account for how the company addresses its adverse human rights impacts. While there is no “one size fits all” approach to developing a human rights policy, there are a number of important elements that should be captured within a policy.

Based on the guidance entitled How to Develop a Human Rights Policy (UN Global Compact and OHCHR, 2015), this webinar will give concrete insights into the elements of a good policy as well as the challenges faced - and strategies employed - by those at the forefront of developing or renewing their company’s policies. The webinar will feature perspectives from two companies on the evolution of their respective company human rights policies and will provide an opportunity for participants to pose questions to the presenters.
