    I am pleased to confirm that Emirates NBD reaffirms its support of the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact in the areas of Human Rights, Labour, Environment and Anti-Corruption.

    In this annual Communication on Progress, we describe our actions to continually improve the integration of the Global Compact and its principles into our business strategy, culture and daily operations. We also commit to share this information with our stakeholders using our primary channels of communication.

Human Rights
  • Assessment, policy and goals

  • Throughout its history, the UAE has followed the principles of justice and equality, respect for human rights, humanitarian aid and relief action in line with the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Since its inception, the UAE has ensured the founding of a tolerant and multi-cultural community in which individuals from across the world live in harmony, guaranteeing via its constitution their civil liberties.
    As an organization, we are aligned to these principles and they are reflected in our Code of Conduct as well as other internal policies.

  • We have a detailed grievance process in place as well as a whistleblower policy to report any wrongdoing.

Labour

  • We have policies in place that cover employee rights and responsibilities as well as their compensation and benefits. Furthermore, we have introduced procedures to evaluate suppliers and contractors across human and labour rights, environmental performance, social development, ethics and integrity, product and service quality.

  • We comply with all applicable labour laws and regulations within the UAE.

    The bank is committed to maintaining a workplace free of all forms of unlawful and unfair discrimination and covers discrimination relating to – but not limited to – selection, performance management, compensation, training, placement, transfer, demotion, promotion, disciplinary action and termination.

  • We are raising awareness among employees about environmental issues and have introduced paper saving and energy consumption initiatives within the organization.

  • Our progress is disclosed and included in our annual sustainability report.

Anti-Corruption

  • We have Zero tolerance towards unlawful and/or illegal practices, such acts includes and are not limited to fraud, bribery, harassment, discrimination, misconduct and malpractice. This is specified in the code of conduct as well as related policies.

  • Description of concrete actions to implement anti-corruption policies, address anti-corruption risks and respond to incidents.

  • Awareness and training sessions are mandatory for all employees and need to be refreshed on an annual basis.

  • Regular internal audits are conducted to ensure adherence to anti-corruption commitments as well as periodic reviews by senior management.
