Description
  • Since January 2004 till the present date, BES has disseminated its policy of social responsibility to Bank collaborators and the public in general. In this context, the bank also communicated it subscribing to the principles of Global Compact. The main actions of the disseminations registered during this first semester were:

    > First Social Responsibility Report:

    BES signed its commitment with Social Responsibility in 2004, with the publication of its first report on this theme. In this report, the bank describes the relationship with its collaborators (page 18 - 35) and presents initiatives in line with the principles of Global Compact (outlining pages 22 to 26).This report was only a first approach to the thematic of Social Responsibility, although it doesn’t have all the indicators.
    Thus, BES presented it as “The Financial Wisdom at the Service of Sustainable Development”. The Report is available on the micro-site of the project “Accomplish More” and in the BES intranet, for all the collaborators.

    > Principles of Relationship with Suppliers:

    Following the BES subscription to the principles of Global Compact, the Bank is developing the “Relationship Principles with the Suppliers of the Espírito Santo Group”. In this document, BES describes the project “Accomplish More” and underlines the importance of the Social Responsibility for the Bank, reveals the principles of the conduct of the BES Group and announces the principles of conduct for their suppliers, developed in accordance with the principles of Global Compact. BES will formally proceed to disseminate these principles to its suppliers and intends to create conditions, in the scope of its operating regulations, so that, in situations of equality, will be favoured the suppliers that use these principles, contributing thus to create a “transmission effect” in their influence area.

    Other communication actions:

    > BESWEB - Intranet of the Bank:

    In the intranet of the Bank, which covers all the companies of the Espírito Santo Group, the project “Accomplish More” was disseminated, as well as BES subscription to the 10 principles of Global Compact.

    > Site www.bes.pt/realizarmais:

    To make known to all its stakeholders the initiatives of Social Responsibility developed by BES, the Bank created a specific micro site on the program “Accomplish More”. In this site, BES reveals its subscription to Global Compact and describes the new principles (in Supplier Relations), allowing direct access to the Global Compact site.

    > Brochures on RSE for branches:

    BES developed a presentation brochure of its Social Responsibility, where it presents some of the actions promoted by the Bank, mentioning the fact that it had subscribed to Global Compact. This brochure is in production and will be available in the BES branches.

    -------------

    > Report of Social Responsibility:

    BES obtained a reasonable interest from the media when it communicated its first RSE report. This interest was possible because BES was the first banking institution in Portugal to publish a report on Social Responsibility and because there are still few Portuguese companies to publish reports with these characteristics. Following a press release sent to 19 media, 9 articles were published

    > Commitments to the dissemination of Global Compact:

    - Suppliers: Information Brochure;
    - Media: Sending information;
    - Social Responsibility Report 2004.
