    To our stakeholders,

    We are pleased to confirm that Solwers Plc reaffirms its support to the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact in the areas of Human Rights, Labor, Environment and Anti-corruption.

    In this annual Communication on Progress, we describe our actions to continually improve the integration of Global Compact and its principles into our business strategy, culture and daily operations. We also commit to sharing this information with our stakeholders using our primary channels of communication.

Human Rights
  • Assessment, policy and goals
  • Description of the relevance of human rights for the company (i.e. human rights risk-assessment). Description of policies, public commitments and company goals on Human Rights.

  • We introduced Solwers ethical guidelines in 2021 to our businesses in Finland and Sweden. According to them, gender equality and respect for each other’s skills are important to us. Solwers' social contribution to individuals is set out in the Solwers Code of Conduct which sets criteria for e.g., working conditions, responsibility for operations, non-discrimination. In our common values one of them is diversity, which we appreciate - meaning that "we dare to be different, as companies and as individuals. Together we are more".

  • Implementation

  • We make donations to beneficiaries in third countries. Our largest donations during the reporting period were to the following beneficiaries:
    • Good Holiday Spirit campaign for low-income families with children in Finland
    • Barncancerfonden, the Swedish Childhood Cancer Fund

    We also launched Whistleblow tool in 2021 to make it possible to report anonymously any malpractice, unlawful or unethical behavior within the workplace.

  • We have no reported cases received via Whistleblow system. We also measure regularly our employee satisfaction which is on a good level.

Labour

  • We introduced Solwers ethical guidelines in 2021. According to them, gender equality and respect for each other’s skills are important. Solwers' social contribution to individuals is set out in the Solwers Code of Conduct which sets criteria for e.g., working conditions, responsibility for operations, non-discrimination.

    In our Code of Conduct, launched 2021, we say that Solwers companies provide all employees with equal opportunities regardless of gender identity or expression, ethnicity, religion or other beliefs, disabilities, sexual orientation, or age. The Group tolerates neither discrimination nor harassment.

  • Our key priority is to support the well-being of our personnel. Personnel satisfaction and well-being are important for us, and we monitor employee work satisfaction with yearly studies and pop-up questionnaires and support and train the line management in the subsidiaries with the aim to be a preferred employer.

    We support positive work climate through the development of leadership and supervisory work, and wellbeing as well as by e.g., providing our personnel with company bicycles, massage services and recreational opportunities and by organizing employee events and trips. We also support local sports and children’s hobbies.

  • We introduced eNPS this year for the first time and the employee satisfaction rate of the group companies was 30,49 which is rather good (scale -100 to +100).

Environment

  • Our vision is to be the preferred partner in visionary and sustainable design and engineering. The Board of Directors’ expertise is a good picture of Solwers' goals of being a forerunner in terms of digitalization and circular economy.

    Solwers businesses contribute to Objective 9 of SDG by designing sustainable infrastructure and promoting sustainable industry and innovation. In addition, the Company supports the realisation of Objective 11 by supporting the emergence of safe and sustainable cities and residential communities and the transition of society towards carbon neutrality.

  • Implementation
  • Description of concrete actions to implement environmental policies, address environmental risks and respond to environmental incidents.

  • Our environmental handprint emerges through the choices made by our customers. We aim to create safe and sustainable cities, residential communities, and infrastructure together with our customers and partners that take into account environmental aspects and the potential of the circular economy. The aim is also to promote energy-efficient and low-emission innovations in construction and to promote responsible use of materials

    Our expert services include many sustainable solutions; for example, designing energy storage solutions and promoting sustainable mobility (walking and cycling), using secondary raw materials in road structures, optimizing the use of bitumen and reusing removed asphalt in renovation of existing roads; in taking groundwater and other environmental factors into consideration in design and engineering activities, optimizing the construction materials, the conversion of existing buildings, passive house solutions, circular economy projects and life-cycle calculations. We also introduced climate declaration service in one of our Swedish companies in 2021 and will continue with the same in Finland.

    We also plan to implement a circular economy project (walk the talk) together with an investor and managed by us. It will be our future office building, a building from the 70's which will to a great part will be reused and not demolished.

    In our own operations, we prefer public transportation and electric/hybrid company vehicles and have introduced company biking as an employee benefit. We aim to save electricity and use suppliers with renewable energy sources. We have also developed a digital EMO remote monitoring platform to monitor virtually in real time the environmental impacts of projects, such as vibrations caused by site excavation, without dust values, noise values, groundwater level changes, work progress and transport routes of materials and masses.

  • We are still in the early phase of systematic measuring of the results. It will be on our agenda this year.

Anti-Corruption

  • In our business operations, we observe Finnish and Swedish legislation, Solwers’ Articles of Association and the Nasdaq Helsinki guidelines for First North companies. We work in close cooperation with our audit firm, which regularly reviews the accounts and financial statements of our Company and subsidiaries.

  • We have a common Code of Conduct, with compliance being supported by the Whistleblow reporting channel implemented in 2021 to allow the personnel to anonymously report any suspicions of unethical conduct.

    Our Code of Conduct guides our daily operations group-wide:
    • Business strategy and our values – passion, diversity, openness – as well as our ethical principles and sustainable development, guide all our operations.
    • We follow good governance and promote diversity in our work community.
    • We add value to our customers and to the society and bring financial benefit to our shareholders.

    Solwers companies' business is based on long-term relationships with customers and business partners. All sales activities and marketing shall be conducted in compliance with relevant laws and regulations. 

     Solwers companies do not participate in corruption, cartels or other unlawful collaboration with competitors, customers or suppliers. In the event any company in the group is approached with proposals for such collaboration, it must be reported to the company management 

    Solwers companies shall not offer or make undue payments or other compensation to any person or any organization for the purpose of inducing such person or organization to act in violation of the law or ethical obligations. They shall not accept any form of undue payment or other compensation, products or services given for the purpose of inducing a Solwers company to act against law or ethical obligations.
