  • In the area of human rights,BAOBAB RESOURCES PLCensures that its workers are provided safe, suitable and sanitary work facilities. The company started recently assessing the current status of Health& Safety conditions and needs. Inspections to all sites were performed and key issues identified. The Company is currently drafting an Action Plan to address these issues. Urgent non-compliance issues are being addressed immediately.Action Plan to address the issues of the inspections and EHS Monitoring Plan being drafted.We ensure that workers are provided with the protective equipment and training necessary to perform their tasks safely. The company supply PPEs to workers according to the tasks performed. Normally PPEs are supplied every 2 years and over the year according to the needs. Training needs were identified for personnel in the field of Environment Health and Safety with several training courses duly undertaken. This has resulted in early positive impact within the Company.NEBOSH International Certificate Training performed by the Environment Health & Safety Officer. First Aid Training was performed in 2013 by the majority of field employees. Update training is scheduled for 2014. We actively involve workers in health and safety work. Toolbox talks are performed everyday for Environment, Health & Safety awareness. The employees participate actively in the talks, bringing sometimes valuable contributions to the improvement of activities. The awareness from the Toolbox Talks has made the employees more aware of the hazards and risks present in their respective areas of work. Tool box talks are constantly updated and improved to accomodate the contributions made by the staff. The company has introduced a Risk Assessment Procedure to be implemented before performing any new activity.We ensure that the workweek is limited to 48 hours; that overtime is infrequent and limited; and that workers are given reasonable breaks and rest periods. Currently the company does 40 hour per week. However, if extra time is required the workers are informed in advance and are compensated in time or monetary compensation. For field work, the company uses a rotation system of 4 weeks in and 1 week off for rest and recuperation.We provide a living wage that enables workers to meet the basic needs of themselves and their dependents. The company pays its employees salaries generally above the average for the mining sector in Mozambique and always above minimum salary levels determined annually by the Government. All salaries are reviewed yearly based on performance appraisals and any Government adjustments to the minimum salary.We ensure that workers are paid holiday leave, sick leave, and parental leave in accordance with international minimum standards. All leave payments are done according to the the national law. When employees are sick, the company pays salary in full and then reclaims from social security later to ensure that employees are not disadvantaged financially.We ensure that all workers have an official employment status. Labour

If the activity is susceptible to cause impacts to the environment, mitigation measures are put in place.We have emergency procedures in place to prevent and address accidents affecting the environment and human health. Basic General Emergency Procedures are in place that provide guidelines for response to all emergency situations at the camps and offices. Anti-Corruption

All company activities that may be susceptible to cause corruption or bribery are carefully assessed according to the anti-corruption policy. Whenever there are large purchases or tenders, it is common to find companies or individuals wishing to take some advantage, through knowing someone influential or through bribery. However, in the evaluation of proposals, the company uses the principles of ''equity and justice'', taking decisions based only on this principle, without neglecting and compromising quality requirements.

All employees working on sensitive areas (those dealing with tenders, procurement, contracts, consultants, etc.) are aware of the anti-corruption procedures and risks. On their day-to-day they have the responsibility for implementing this policy, and for monitoring its use and effectiveness.
