    To our stakeholders
    I am pleased to confirm that Young Henrys reaffirms its support of the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact in the areas of Human Rights, Labour, Environment and Anti-Corruption.
    In this our first annual Communication on Progress, we describe our actions and assess our impacts on integrating the Global Compact and its principles into our business strategy, culture and daily operations.
    We also commit to sharing this information with our stakeholders using our primary channels of communication.

Human Rights
  • Assessment, policy and goals

  • ASSESSMENT, POLICY AND GOALS
    Young Henrys goal is to identify, action and communicate our progress in relation to human rights issues relevant to our business. Young Henrys aim is to build a culture where employees and other stakeholders are treated with dignity and respect.
    Young Henrys is domiciled in Australia and as such comply with local legal requirements for human rights and others contained in international ratified treaties.
    Our commitment includes but not limited to our commitment to support of:
    • Universal Declaration of Human Rights
    • Federal and State Constitutions
    • Disability Discrimination Act
    • Racial Discrimination Act
    • Sex Discrimination Act
    • Australian Human Rights Commission Act.

    We empower women in brewing via a scholarships program, commit to equal pay for all staff irrespective of gender and encourage a diverse workforce.

  • We updated our Employee Code of Conduct and Supplier Code of Conduct to reference the UN Compact and key human rights issues.
    We have communicated these commitments to our staff via induction training and re-issued our Supplier Code of Conduct.

    Our Executive Management team review any internal or external compliance that affects the business.

Labour

  • Young Henrys supports the UNGC principles on labour standards in addition to following local laws on labour rights. Our Code of Conduct outlines employee rights and responsibilities to meet and exceed our expectations.
    Labour rights form part of our core values as an organisation promoting inclusion and diversity.

  • Our Company Policy Handbook covers employee rights, responsibilities, unlawful discrimination, health and safety, harassment and bullying behaviour and equal opportunity.
    We have both formal and informal processes, reporting and communication on labour issues, management, staff and supplier meetings, and external stakeholder feedback submission form via our website.

  • We confirmed compliance with our labour contracts for full-time, casual and part-time employees.

Environment

  • At Young Henrys we are working towards a greener future. We are actively working across our material environmental impacts (energy, waste, water, packaging, and agriculture), including our supply chain.
    We developed and communicated our Environmental Policy approved by management. Accountability for environmental programs sits within the executive leadership team.
    We have a target to achieve B Corp Certification in 2022.
    We have engaged third-party energy consultants to complete an assessment of our Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions for our operations (Scope 1,2 and major scope 3 emissions) and a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of our Newtowner Australian Pale Ale to international standard ISO14040:2006.

  • Environmental Responsibilities sit within the executive management team.
    We expect our suppliers to minimise the environmental impact of their operations and maintain environmentally responsible policies and practices. This is communicated via our Supplier Code of Conduct.
    We donate 100% of the spent grain from the brewing process to local farms for cattle feed.
    Our kegs are leased through Konvoy to minimise emissions and increase utilisation across the industry.
    We are working with the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) UTS Climate Change Cluster and Meat and Livestock Australia to develop a Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) system using microalgae that captures the C02 from the brewing process. These microalgae can be fed to livestock via a grain supplement to offset enteric methane emissions.

  • Weekly management team meetings track progress on our environmental programs.
    Our B Corp Certification is on track for completion and is at the Verification stage.
    Our Newtown brewery and distillery is now sourcing 100% of its electrical power from renewable sources thanks to our community-led solar investment into our 33kW solar installation, combined with a renewable energy Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) through an energy retailer and Australian Hotel Association (AHA).

Anti-Corruption

  • Young Henrys has a zero-tolerance approach to bribery across all its regions – in compliance with the Australian Criminal Code Act 1995. We recognise the risk of corruption and bribery in our operations and supply chain, and we have committed to the UN Convention Against Corruption.
    Our Employee Code of Conduct and Policy Handbook, Supplier Code of Conduct outlines our stance on fraud, bribery and corruption, including the consequences of any breach. These policies implicitly refer to the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact.
    Staff and suppliers are Inducted in these requirements when onboarding.

  • Any breach of our commitments or concerns can be raised in person to management or anonymously via our website.
    Our Finance department conducts internal assurance audits of our financial statements, and the CFO reports on these audits and statements to the CEO and Board.

  • Young Henrys has not been involved or implicated in any cases relating to any corruption and or bribery. We have a robust incident management process that outlines the requirements and possible actions for investigating breaches of our policies, including disciplinary actions.
    We commit to conducting periodic management reviews to ensure we meet our anti-corruption commitments.
