    I am pleased to confirm that Africa GreenCo reaffirms its support of the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact in the areas of Human Rights, Labour, Environment and Anti-Corruption. In this annual Communication on Progress, we describe our actions to continually improve the integration of the Global Compact and its principles into our business strategy, culture and daily operations. We also commit to sharing this information with our stakeholders using our primary channels of communication. Our continued vision is to lead innovation and sustainably transform renewable energy markets in Africa. Our mission is to address creditworthiness to increase generation and growth of renewable energy markets through partnerships and innovative solutions. Throughout our company operations we ensure alignment with our core Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Human Rights
  • Assessment, policy and goals
  • Description of the relevance of human rights for the company (i.e. human rights risk-assessment). Description of policies, public commitments and company goals on Human Rights.

  • • Africa GreenCo has an Occupational Health and Safety Policy in place. In relation to health risks, the company has a Health and Wellness Policy which covers issues such as Covid-19. For Covid-19 mitigation during the pandemic, the company provided facilities for staff to work from home and when lockdowns were eased testing kits, disinfectant wipes, face masks and hand sanitisers were provided.

    • The company has a Code of Conduct, and it covers all company participants from Board members to contractors working within company premises or on behalf of the company elsewhere.

    • The company has a Sexual Harassment Policy and workers are also protected from conduct amounting to workplace physical, verbal, sexual or psychological harassment, abuse, or threats through the Disciplinary and Grievance Procedure Code.

  • Implementation

  • • The company has provided a first aid box in case of injuries in the office. There is a trained first aider and a fire marshal in the workplace.

    • In case of serious injuries, the company has provided for medical insurance above what is mandated by law. The health insurance policy also covers all health-related matters for staff and their families.

    • The company provides staff orientation during on-boarding and during introduction of new laws and requirements. Updates are also provided during weekly staff meetings in the event of new developments in policies that need to be highlighted to all staff.

Labour

  • • Africa GreenCo does not participate in any form of forced or bonded labour.

    • The Company Complies fully with the minimum wage standards as prescribed by the law.

    • We ensure that employment-related decisions are based on relevant and objective criteria and use Bamboo HR to objectively monitor progress of our staff as aligned to they key performance indicators (KPIs).

  • • All our employees have contracts that align with the Ministry of Labour which in turn is well aligned to the ILO Labour ratified Conventions.

    • The Company practices non-discrimination on all labour related issues from recruitment to exit with the use of our Non-Discrimination Policy to ensure this is the case.

We go for public well known transparent platforms for all to see and participate as well as place announcements on our website for maximum visibility. We have a rigorous interview and assessment process that ensures the best candidate is objectively selected.

Environment

  • • The company’s activities are office based.

    • Solid waste generation and fuel consumption for the company vehicles are monitored monthly. Compliance with national laws and IFC Standards is required for all proposed power projects facilitated by the company.

  • • Safety briefings are given to visitors to the office. The company has policies that guide health and safety:

Continuous checks and inspections are made by our human resource officer and company secretary on an on-going basis.
