Environment
  • Assessment, policy and goals
  • Description of the relevance of environmental protection for the company (i.e. environmental risks and opportunities). Description of policies, public commitments and company goals on environmental protection.

  • Our efforts are guided by the goal of decarbonizing economic activities, and the tools we developed to achieve this ambitious goal are an extension of our core
    principles: technology and entrepreneurship.

Our approach to tackling climate change is a broad one, based on best practices from the sectors in which group companies operate.
We understand that we need to act urgently, and action does not stop at our door, but needs to be passed on and continued beyond eMAG’s operations: among our suppliers, partners, and even competitors. Global warming does not stop at country borders, and it affects ecosystems and populations in all regions of the world.
Therefore, the success of our business is closely linked to the ability to adapt to these global challenges and, moreover, to ensure that future generations have access to a life in harmony with nature.

  • Implementation
  • Description of concrete actions to implement environmental policies, address environmental risks and respond to environmental incidents.

  • We are constantly implementing solutions and finding new ways to cut carbon emissions in our operations, such as energy efficiency in buildings, self-generated energy (PV panels), parcel lockers and e-mobility to reduce emissions from last-mile delivery, reduction of packaging quantity, order consolidation and digitalized solutions, such as electronic invoices, returns and warranties.
Moreover, we are aiming at offering our customers circular services and products with a lower environmental impact such as resealed, refurbished or repaired products. Please see chapters 4 and 5 of our Sustainability Report to read more about the mentioned measures to lower our environmental impact: https://about.emag.ro/en/sustainability/

Another important project is "Angajament pentru Mediu" (Environmental Pledge). Together with our partners, Foundation Conservation Carpathia and Green Group, we launched this first endeavour that brings together Romania's business environment, from large enterprises to SMEs, to fight against climate change and actively contribute to the achievement of the objectives set by the Paris Agreement. More information on how the Pledge works can be found on a dedicated website: https://www.angajamentpentrumediu.ro/en/

  • The operational carbon footprint is audited at Naspers Group level, with limited assurance. Moreover, we comply with ISO 9001 and 14001 and our Romanian logistic centers are certified with BREEAM, the international standard for sustainable buildings, rated with "Excellent" mark.
On the other hand, we want to help our region to prosper and preserve its biodiversity, today and in the future. Therefore, we partnered with Foundation Conservation Carpathia and Green Group to help protect the old forests in the Fagaras Mountains in Romania that are endangered by unauthorized deforestation.
