Human Rights
  • Assessment, policy and goals
  • Description of the relevance of human rights for the company (i.e. human rights risk-assessment). Description of policies, public commitments and company goals on Human Rights.

  • In our assessment this year, we realized that the culture in Airworks already supports human rights in many areas. Our management team encourages staff to air their views on this issue and it is discussed openly during meetings. However, we also realized that this support was not documented which is a risk that may lead to future decisions that via away from the norm. We are keen in maintaining and improving this area and we are already taking measures to reinforce our stand on Human Rights issues.

  • Implementation
  • Description of concrete actions to implement Human Rights policies, address Human Rights risks and respond to Human Rights violations.

  • We have created a document which we have named 'Sustainability Policy Manual'. In this document, we have stated a couple of policies that support human rights within the organization. The policies are simple and clear, and are available to all our staff through our Library. Our Quality department has taken up the responsibility to ensure that the policies are practiced and that any anomalies are reviewed to better understand how best to be fair in this area.

  • Measurement of outcomes
  • Description of how the company monitors and evaluates performance.

  • The Sustainability Policy Manual was created in November last year and is quite new to Airworks staff. We have set about to have regular monthly meetings to review the progress of its implementation and to ensure that the existing way of handling human rights issues are improved on along with other areas of our operation. We were not able to hold these meetings last year owing to the situation on COVID 19 in our country. However, we anticipate that beginning June 2021, we will be able to hold such monthly meetings regularly.

Labour
  • Assessment, policy and goals
  • Description of the relevance of labour rights for the company (i.e. labour rights-related risks and opportunities). Description of written policies, public commitments and company goals on labour rights.

  • Airworks is a service business offering aircraft maintenance and air operation services to our customers. We value the skills our employees bring to the organisation. Therefore labour and labour issues are at the core of our business. Airworks culture is fairly supportive of labour rights although we have seen areas we could improve on.

  • Implementation
  • Description of concrete actions taken by the company to implement labour policies, address labour risks and respond to labour violations.

  • We have put in place polices to support labour rights more specifically in our human resource area to reaffirm our stand on this important issue. We encourage our staff to be open about labour rights issues and report them as they arise so that they can be deliberated upon and find solutions that are fair. Quality department has taken up the responsibility to ensure that the policies are practiced and that any anomalies are reviewed to better understand how best to be fair in this area.

  • Measurement of outcomes
  • Description of how the company monitors and evaluates performance.

  • The Sustainability Policy Manual created in November last year includes labour rights policies and are available to all our staff through our Library. Labour issues are also discussed during regular monthly meetings set to start in June this year.

Environment
  • Assessment, policy and goals
  • Description of the relevance of environmental protection for the company (i.e. environmental risks and opportunities). Description of policies, public commitments and company goals on environmental protection.

  • During our aircraft maintenance and air operations, our usual practice is to ensure safety first. In our assessment, it was noted that already, Airworks staff were aware of safety first and environment second. They are aware of the simple things they can do to keep it green. A good example is the clear signs on our common printers that warn staff not to print what is not necessary to print. The sign/note goes ahead to state the number of rims of paper one tree generates. This gives the reader a pause to think critically of the many trees that had to be cut to produce the paper in front of them, to see whether it is indeed necessary to print and to know what it means to use paper.

  • Implementation
  • Description of concrete actions to implement environmental policies, address environmental risks and respond to environmental incidents.

  • In support of our environment, we have included a set of policies that support this area in our internally accepted Sustainability Policy Manual. Example of these policies include switching off lights, ensuring water leakages are fixed promptly, use of rechargeable batteries, use of recycled products where possible among others.

  • Measurement of outcomes
  • Description of how the company monitors and evaluates environmental performance.

  • In the Sustainability review meetings set to begin in June 2021, we have planned to discuss the implementation of these policies and also to deliberate on ways to better support the sustainability of our environment in our daily operations.

Anti-Corruption
  • Assessment, policy and goals
  • Description of the relevance of anti-corruption for the company (i.e. anti-corruption risk-assessment). Description of policies, public commitments and company goals on anti-corruption.

  • Airworks works with various suppliers from Aircraft spare parts to office stationary. During our procurement process, our practice is usually carried out with integrity. However, there was little documentation on the process which, even though there were no corruption cases reported, makes it possible to manipulate. Our culture is safety first, we are therefore keen on quality is our procurement process. It is relevant to ensure the organization works free of corruption so that quality items are delivered and used and to reduce costs by ensuring competitive prices are considered.

  • Implementation
  • Description of concrete actions to implement anti-corruption policies, address anti-corruption risks and respond to incidents.

  • Anti-corruption policies have been included in our Sustainability Policy Manual specifically in matters to do with supply and procurement. We are already keen to engage those who are supportive of sustainability issues or those who are conscious about responsible business.

  • Measurement of outcomes
  • Description of how the company monitors and evaluates anti-corruption performance.

  • Anti-Corruption policies will also be discussed during our monthly sustainability review meetings set to begin in June 2021.
