Learnings from COVID-19 for Climate Change and Other Global Environmental and Health Challenges

As the world is struggling to face up to the global threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, UN Secretary-General António Guterres has rightly declared an all-out war against the pandemic, the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). In India as well, under the leadership of the Prime Minister and strong efforts across the States, a country-wide response is being crafted. We as GCNI stand committed to support all such initiatives to thwart the spread of this virus.

SustainEverse, an initiative by Global Compact Network India (GCNI) and SocioLadder Foundation, is a first of its kind global sustainability network and technology portal. The Portal will host various Virtual initiatives including Webinars, Training Sessions and E-learning modules.

The Webinar will be moderated by Dr Mukund Rajan, Chairman ECube Investment Advisors; the other participants will be Mr Shankar Venkateswaran, Chairman, Oxfam India, and Dr Pankaj Gupta, President, IIHMR University. The Webinar will focus on the following issues:

Major learnings on dealing with pandemics in India – including the state of healthcare infrastructure in India, and the need to equip frontline healthcare providers with adequate protective equipment; preparing society for the sometimes draconian measures required to stem the spread of disease; the use of digital technology to efficiently deliver aid where required; the interventions companies can make through CSR spending and also through their own supply chains; and the need to secure the interests of those at the bottom of the pyramid.

Likely changes in the aftermath of COVID 19 in economic growth, the way markets are organized, how people go about their work, and inequality in society.

Learnings from COVID 19 for how global environmental issues like climate change might be addressed.
