Introduction to the Humanitarian System

Overview

In 2016, 40 per cent of people lived in fragile situations, yet by 2030 this number is expected to increase to 62 per cent. With the scale and intensity of humanitarian needs fast outpacing the ability of traditional actors to respond, businesses, the United Nations, Governments and civil society must work together to create more resilient communities and increase local capacity to prepare for, respond to and recover from crises.

The UNDP-OCHA led Connecting Business initiative and the UN Global Compact will co-convene a webinar to provide an introduction for organizations interested in humanitarian action. The objective is to help businesses and business networks understand the building blocks of the humanitarian system, navigate between different global, regional and local actors and explore the role of private sector support. Through practical guidance and case examples, the webinar will encourage coordination and provide a path to collective private sector action.
