    To our stakeholders:

    I am pleased to confirm that Chieftain Fabrics reaffirms its support of the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact in the areas of Human Rights, Labour, Environment and Anti-Corruption.

    In this annual Communications Progress, we describe our action to continually improve the integration of the Global Compact and its principles into our business stratetegy, culture and daily operations. We also commit to share this information with our stakeholders using our primary channels of communication.

Human Rights

Labour

  • At Chieftain Fabrics we consider our employees to be our greatest asset. We work hard to ensure that the working conditions, including health and safety are at an optimum level.
    Our employees are given regular training to ensure that they feel competent in the workplace and are capable of working with any new technology that is introduced..
    Our workplace is an equal rights workplace and we subscribe to a non discriminatory ethos.

  • Employees have participated in training schemes in order to raise their competency.
    All employees participate in a yearly profit share scheme which allows them to have a greater ownership of their work and share in the success of the company thanks to that work.
    Worker's rights are respected in accordance with European law.
    Regular training and education ensures that workers are aware of their rights as well as procedures to be employed should they have grievances.

  • As our company is small, we rely on periodic reviews by our company directors to ensure that all employees are well-trained and competent.

Environment

  • The natural environment is the greatest legacy that we have to leave to our children. Thus we are determined to make as little impact on our planet as possible.
    We are aware that in the plastics industry in particular, it is essential to recycle and reuse wherever possible whether that be in the product itself or in its packaging and distribution.
    Chieftain Fabrics are committed to constantly updating and changing manufacturing methods and ingredients to ensure the sustainability of our products.

  • In 2018, we changed our backing cloth from 100% organic cotton to 100% recycled cotton to reduce environmental impact.
    All of our packaging was changed from recyclable plastic to recycled plastic.
    We are currently working on a PVC free vinyl which will be 100% biodegradable. This will be launched in March 2019 but tests are currently ongoing.
    We are still working on replacing solvent-based lacquer with water based lacquers. This is more difficult than we had initially hoped but it is something we hope to launch in 2019
    We work exclusively with European suppliers in order to reduce our carbon imprint

  • All internal changes to our products are backed up by external testing houses and for each change we have made, certification is available.

Anti-Corruption

    We do business with integrity at all times and are not underhand nor dishonest in our business practices.

  • We only choose suppliers that are Reach compliant so that they can give guarantees of quality. These suppliers are certified, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
    We choose only European suppliers to ensure that their certification is valid.
