    In this annual Communication on Progress, we describe our actions to continually improve the integration of the Global Compact and its principles into our business strategy, culture and daily operations. We also commit to share this information with our stakeholders using our primary channels of communication.

Human Rights
  • Assessment, policy and goals

  • "With great powers comes great responsibilities"
    Inspired by above saying and as a Law Office operating in Iraq, we consider ourselves as holders of a powerful tool that we are wisely making use of to create a long-term impact to our society by dealing with locals; and on International range providing our services to foreign institutions.
    Considering the rising violations human rights lately witnesses worldwide and in the area in specific, our efforts to support Human Rights is escalating. This is clearly being noticed through the divergent relations with the society fundamental institutions, stakeholders, individuals, cultural samples. Respecting Human Rights and applying at least their minimum requirements is being extensively urged to through our variant meetings and in multiple different occasions.

  • Implementation

  • Despite of enormous difficulties and great challenges the society faces when it comes to particular human rights terms; our office (inspired by the UNGC ten principles) is taking this challenge in each an every aspect that relates (whether directly on indirectly) to its activities, starting from internal behavior with the office members and extending to include our international business relations.
    The promotion and protection of human rights is one of our office fundamental aims. The setting of specific standards in the field of human rights and the establishment of mechanisms to monitor those standards has been one the primary means of achieving this aim. Rising from that base; our office maintains strong obligation towards evaluating its employees efforts beyond racism and by enforcing genders equity and employing special needs work force.

    We were also an effective part of several campaigns visiting refugee camps on the Syrian-Jordanian borders. The visits included an inspection to the environment and people health and feeding conditions there and variant charity acts. It also involved donating food, clothes and considerable amounts of monies,which we managed to collect via charity campaigns arranged locally during multiple occasions self-motivated and self-financed.

  • As an application of Human Rights practices; our office have effectively participated in Women Fast Forward Initiative Forum; which represents a great grouping platform for political & economical women leaders involving series of local and international round table events.
    Setting basic rules for respecting Human Rights have been effectively considered and effectiveness application of those rules is being closely monitored by the management and consistently reported. Practical actions for maintaining any deviation to those rules took place equally on every level be applying public notifications and certain fines/deductions in some cases.

Labour

  • Description of the relevance of labour rights for the company (i.e. labour rights-related risks and opportunities). Description of written policies, public commitments and company goals on labour rights.

  • Employment Agreements and policy adopted by our office runs in compliance with Iraq Labor Law and with high sense of international human rights standards. Developing written policies describing the labor rights and responsibilities is being considered, updated and modified on annual basis. Meetings are coordinated and held to discuss those factors and the means of improving the labor rights.

  • Implementation
  • Description of concrete actions taken by the company to implement labour policies, address labour risks and respond to labour violations.

  • Conducting in-depth researches and continuously reporting the conditions of our labor is being carried out, covering variant aspects that may relate to this principle. Starting from detailed description to each member responsibilities, risks, benefits and rights and up to maintaining those factors to ensure a decent profession practice and healthy work environment.

  • Any violation or act that may lead to possible violation to our labor rights is totally rejected under our office policy. Means of monitoring relevant violation indicators are continuously being modified to ensure full adhere to the policy of labor rights. While any initiative to upgrade that policy is welcomed by the management and highly evaluated and being studied to be practically considered when efficiency is proved.

Environment

  • The aim of protecting the environment through applying policies,rules and acts that serves this aim is our great ambition to be applied within our office and shines to light the society deepest sides.
    Among of all the environmental issues, we can specify our goals to the necessity of wise consumption to natural resources and affects created by such consumption that extends to the next generations in our society and around the globe. In addition to alternative resources that could be found and developed for general use.

  • Our office is taking the responsibility for instructing labor force to adhere to the environment protection rules especially those related to consumption of resources and set out rules and penalties for any violation, as well as setting an example supporting those rules by the management itself.
    The application of this responsibility is covering our work aspects internally and externally to include suppliers and beneficiaries of our services.

  • Rising from extensive change within the climate; strict procedures are being adopted to limit those violations to the minimum possible. This could obviously noticed through everyday's awareness instructions (written and oral) provided to our employees in relation to that subject. The effectiveness of those instructions became very easy to distinguish through the behavior of our office members and associates to be the dominant trend.

Anti-Corruption

  • The effect of corruption to each member in the society is no longer a secret, and bringing the real acts and practices being applied by any party (whether an institution or individual; whether governmental or private sector) that may relate directly on indirectly to corruption to public discussion, represents the heart of problem solution.
    Among of all efforts made by our office to stand facing the corruption at all levels, reporting corruption was the most effective means supported by laws and regulations prohibiting the same.

  • Our office maintains a strong policy dealing with transparency to all matters and issues being handled by our office and throughout its wide activities. This is closely followed up by all office departments to make sure keeping our activities on the track. Despite of above; complying to anti-corruption rules is being closely watched by the head management and strict punishments are applied to any attempt of violation.
    Remarkable time is being spent and in many events is allocated in advance to prevent possible corruption. Not to mention the semi-daily Instructions being posted to all office members.
