    To our stakeholders:

    I am pleased to confirm that Maritime Craft Services (Clyde) Ltd (MCS) reaffirms its support of the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact in the areas of Human Rights, Labour, Environment and Anti-Corruption.

    In this annual Communication on Progress, we describe our actions to continually improve the integration of the Global Compact and its principles into our business strategy, culture and daily operations. We also commit to share this information with our stakeholders using our primary channels of communication.

Human Rights
  • Assessment, policy and goals
  • Description of the relevance of human rights for the company (i.e. human rights risk-assessment). Description of policies, public commitments and company goals on Human Rights.

  • MCS actively supports the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and we are committed to ensuring that all employees and workers are treated fairly and with respect. MCS will not tolerate victimisation, bullying or harassment in the workplace.

  • Implementation
  • Description of concrete actions to implement Human Rights policies, address Human Rights risks and respond to Human Rights violations.

  • MCS has a grievance procedure in place and all employees are made aware of this procedure. We re-affirmed our commitment to the Maritime Labour Convention (2006) and all seafarers are issued with terms and conditions of employment which contain the Seafarers Employment Agreements. Each of our vessels has a specific on-board complaints procedure which can be used by any seafarer.

  • In the past year MCS has not been subject to any legal cases or incidents involving human rights.

Labour
  • Assessment, policy and goals
  • Description of the relevance of labour rights for the company (i.e. labour rights-related risks and opportunities). Description of written policies, public commitments and company goals on labour rights.

  • MCS supports the ILO Core Conventions and will not do business with any organisation who uses forced or child labour.
    All employees at MCS are issued with a contract of employment which clearly states terms and conditions including pay rates. On recruiting staff all employees are issued with an induction pack which contains key information on working arrangements, including standard policies such as disciplinary procedures, grievance procedure.

    We ensure that recruitment agencies that we use are MLC compliant and have been issued with a certificate to confirm this. We also require recruitment agencies to be ISO 9001 certified.

    MCS complies and exceeds health & safety legislation and includes a significant amount of H&S training in our company training plan.

  • Implementation

  • MCS has a range of HR policies which support best practice in relation to employment - policies such as flexible working policy, training & development policy. We also run annual appraisals for every employee.

    We have a well documented Health & Safety policy with a range of safety procedures. Our management and health & safety system includes compliance audits - internal and external and includes risk assessments.

  • We are in the middle of this year's annual appraisal process and we are on track to achieve 100% completion - from the appraisal we identify training and development needs and work through the training plan in the year ahead.

    MCS has not been involved in any legal cases related to the contravention of the Global Compact Labour principles.

Environment
  • Assessment, policy and goals
  • Description of the relevance of environmental protection for the company (i.e. environmental risks and opportunities). Description of policies, public commitments and company goals on environmental protection.

  • MCS has an Environmental Management System and an Environmental Policy. We are currently working towards attaining ISO 14001 Environmental Management certification and we expect to have achieved this by Spring 2015. As part of our aim to achieve this certification our Environmental Management System will undergo internal and external audits.

    We encourage our office staff to car share wherever possible and have introduced a cycle to work scheme to enable employees to purchase bicycles.

  • We recently moved into custom built office premises which has the highest environmental rating possible. We have introduced recycling waste bins throughout the offices.

  • Good progress has been made towards achieving ISO 14001 certification.

    MCS has not been subject to any statutory notices or prosecutions for Environmental incidents.

Anti-Corruption
  • Assessment, policy and goals

  • MCS is compliant with the Bribery Act and does not participate in any corruption, bribery or extortion. MCS supports the UN Convention Against Corruption and does not operate with organisations who are corrupt.

  • Our Managing Director is ultimately responsible for anti-corruption within MCS.

    We are about to introduce a new Corporate Social Responsibility Policy.

  • Our Corporate Social Responsibility Policy has been drafted and awaits final approval. We expect it to be introduced by January 2015.

    MCS annual accounts are externally audited each year and submitted to Companies House.

    MCS has not been involved in any legal cases, rulings etc related to corruption or bribery.
