SME Engagement Project

Currently, the majority of Global Compact participants are small and medium enterprises (SMEs), with 250 employees or less. While SMEs continue to join the initiative at high rates, they face challenges to fully engage with the initiative and its programs. SMEs constitute the majority of delisted companies despite various mitigation and support measures by the Global Compact and its Local Networks.

In January 2015, after a thorough evaluation of the situation of SMEs within the initiative was completed by the Global Compact, the board Board of Directors mandated the Global Compact to to present suggestions around SME engagement in a future meeting.

To implement the Board’s mandate, the Global Compact engaged the LNAG, and together designed an Action Plan that included the formation of a Task Force, surveys among LNs and SMEs, webinars, consultations, and presentations, among others. The end result will be a collective proposal to present to the Board in its first 2016 meeting.
