Case Description

In December 2003, the sustainability policy of Endesa was approved, focused on seven commitments for the Sustainability Development that concerns each and every one of us who work at the company or on its behalf.

“We are an international energy utility, with electricity as our core business and a growing presence in the gas industry, and a supplier of other related services.

Our objective is to supply our customers with a quality service responsibly and efficiently, while providing a return to our stockholders, foresting our employees’ professional development, assisting with the development of the social environments in which we operate and using the natural resources necessary for our activities in a suitable manner.

We are aware that we must meet our economic, social and environmental possibilities in a balance manner, based on a suitable criteria, if we are tot maintain our leading position and reinforced it for the future.

The following commitments for the sustainable development constitute the guidelines and foundation for our conduct in this area.

Compliance with them is expressly promoted by Company Management and concerns each and every one of us who work at the Company or on its behalf; this is why we transfer them our contractors and suppliers and third parties to evaluate our compliance.

These commitments are fully integrated into our day-to-day work and are constantly reviewed and improved by Endesa management and all of us who participate in their application”.An informative document, enclosing a letter singed by the CEO of Endesa, has been elaborated and sent it to our customers, 26000 employees of our company in all countries were Endesa works and to all our suppliers and contractors.

The sustainability policy provides the guidelines and foundation of the relations with customers, stockholders, employees, suppliers and with the society in general. It materialize by:

We are aware that Energy is an essential good for social and economic development of the communities were Endesa is present. Consequently is our responsibility to become increasingly efficient knowing our customers better, so that we can offer sound solutions tailored to their needs.

§ Commitment to the creation of value and profitability: Our stockholders

We are firmly committed to the objective of increasing Company value and providing a return to our stockholders in the context of relationship based on the principles of loyalty and transparency.

§ Commitment to the health, safety and personal and professional development of the people working at Endesa: Our people.

The Company undertakes to provide equal opportunities to all its employees to enable them to develop their skills and professional careers, without any discrimination, especially with regard to race, sex, political affiliation or religious belief. Also to ensure safe and healthy work environments and a balanced combination of work and family.

§ Commitment to good governance and ethical practices: Our behavior.
We believe that honesty and integrity are essential values of our Company, which guide our behavior, which is oriented towards the principles of good governance.

§ Commitment to environmental protection: Our nature.

Environment protection is a criterion that permanently embedded in our Company management and decision-making processes.

§ Commitment to efficiency: The Innovation.

We are aware that we use very valuable natural resources. Therefore we try to use the cleanest and most efficient technologies available and focused our research and technological innovation capability to reduce the impacts on it, not only locally but also globally. Also we promote energy saving.

§ Commitment to the development of the communities in which we operate: the society.

Our assimilation into the territories in which we are present is an essential element of our corporate culture. We are aware that the supply of energy is essential to the community development. Therefore we attend the needs of the population in areas in which we operate.
