(New York, 29 September 2008) -- The UN Global Compact Office today announced the appointment of Mr Gavin Power as Deputy Director, effective immediately. Since 2002, Mr. Power has led the development of a number of strategic policy initiatives for the UN Global Compact, including the development of the Principles for Responsible Investment, the world's largest initiative on responsible investing; Who Cares Wins -- Connecting Financial Markets to a Changing World; and, most recently, The CEO Water Mandate, a leading global water sustainability initiative. Mr Power has also had responsibility for global public affairs, advocacy, and strategic communications, and has led the development of the UN Global Compact's U.S. Network of companies and stakeholders.

A frequent speaker and contributor at international events, Mr. Power has extensive experience in the public and corporate sectors. Prior to joining the UN Global Compact, Mr Power held senior management positions at Levi Strauss & Co., and Ketchum, where he specialized in corporate sustainability issues, public affairs, transparency and disclosure, and stakeholder relations. Prior to his corporate experience, Mr. Power was an editor and financial journalist for The San Francisco Chronicle, covering business and economic issues.
