(New York, 14 August 2008) –The Junior Chamber International (JCI), one of the world’s largest networks of young leaders, has issued a draft resolution strengthening the organization’s level of support and collaboration with the Global Compact. The document was first introduced at this year’s JCI Leadership Summit, which was held at UN Headquarters on 28-29 July.
Following the 2008 JCI Commitment to Action to “Advance CSR through the Global Compact”, the Summit aimed to strengthen working relations between JCI and the Global Compact, especially through collaboration at the country level and through the development of training courses for JCI members.
The draft document specifically identifies several areas of action, including active outreach in support of the Global Compact; encouraging JCI members and their businesses to join the initiative; supporting local networks and their establishment; and creating a JCI CSR award. The draft resolution is currently being vetted by JCI Chapters around the world and will be presented for adoption at the annual JCI World Congress this fall in New Delhi.
