Expert Meeting Confirms Importance of Communication on Progress

(New York, 22 May 2008)—The UN Global Compact Office today released the summary report of the 4th Communication on Progress (COP) Workshop which took place in Geneva on 3-4 April 2008. This year’s workshop brought together approximately 50 representatives from companies participating in the UN Global Compact, as well as stakeholders from the financial community, civil society, academia and the United Nations.

The meeting confirmed the importance of corporate reporting on environmental, social and governance issues, with the COP viewed as essential for upholding the integrity of the UN Global Compact and its participants.

Under the theme “Meeting Stakeholder Expectations”, participants discussed the varied expectations of stakeholder groups with regard to non-financial reporting, as well as general reporting trends and challenges. Several companies presented individual approaches to communicating progress.
