(Santo Domingo, 20 October 2006/gco) – Over 120 top executives of Dominican Global Compact participants and H.E. Dr. Leonel Fernandez, President of the Dominican Republic, gathered at the headquarters of the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrrollo (FUNGLODE) (www.funglode.org) in Santo Domingo today for the launch of the “Global Compact Network in the Dominican Republic.” Keynote and welcoming speeches were delivered by Manuel Escudero, Head of Networks in the Global Compact Office in New York; and Luis Manuel Bonetti, business man and leader of the Global Compact Network in the Dominican Republic.
Plans for a network launch in the Caribbean nation were first made in June 2004, shortly after the first Global Compact Leaders Summit in New York, when Mr. Georg Kell, Executive Head of the Global Compact visited the FUNGLODE in Santo Domingo to present the Global Compact and benefits of participation to Dominican business and civil society leaders.
