The Global Compact is a voluntary corporate citizenship initiative. It is not designed to regulate or enforce compliance, but rather to encourage change and solution-finding through practices and actions based on the notions of leadership, dialogue, learning and projects. Global labour and civil society take an active part in this, providing expertise, operational knowledge and on-the-ground capacities.
The Global Compact is meant to complement and not substitute regulation. Regulatory authority lies entirely with governments and governments will have to make decisions on the Norms as adopted by the Sub-Commission of Human Rights. From the perspective of the Global Compact, we always welcome efforts that help to clarify complex human rights questions and that foster practical changes.
