San Francisco Proclaims Support for Global Compact

The City and County of San Francisco announced its support for the Global Compact by proclaiming 16 May 2003 “United Nations Global Compact Day in San Francisco”. The official Proclamation, made by Mayor Willie Lewis Brown Jr., underscored the collaborative nature of the Compact in encouraging companies to work with other social actors to advance the nine principles.

San Francisco is the third city to publicly support the Global Compact, after the City of Melbourne and the City of Nuremberg.

The Proclamation also recognized the work of the United Nations Association of San Francisco in raising awareness of UN activities and initiating a campaign titled “Toward Responsible Globalization”.
