Asian Employees Endorse Global Compact

Singapore, February 2002
The principles and goals of the UN Global Compact have been endorsed by the ASEAN Confederation of Employers (ACE), who met in Singapore in February to hold a joint study workshop with the Nikkeiren International Cooperation Center.

According to the meeting's published recommendations, "companies should be encouraged by the employers' organization to align their best practices to the principles of the of the Global Compact for purposes of recognition, reporting, and showcasing."

Although the ACE concluded "the Global Compact Initiative should remain voluntary based on enlightened self-interest of the individual corporations," the group suggested that "the establishment of an information and monitoring network should be considered" as a means for "sustaining the momentum of the Global Compact initiatives by the members of the ACE."
