  • As a global beer and beverage company, environmental sustainability is extremely important for the Carlsberg Group’s business. Most of our raw materials and ingredients are sourced directly from nature, and the continued success of our business is directly linked to the health of the environment. We are therefore continuously looking for ways to reduce our impact on the environment and the communities in which we operate. The Carlsberg Group understands the important role that we play in understanding, protecting and enhancing the services that ecosystems provide and the underlying biodiversity. We are therefore constantly striving to optimise our use of natural resources, to view our products and activities from a life cycle perspective, and to develop and use environmentally friendly products, materials and technologies in a way that contributes to long-term sustainable development. Our sustainability programme Together Towards ZERO clearly underlines our commitment to sustainable development, by setting industry-leading targets that tackle the impacts of our activities throughout the value chain, from the sourcing of materials, through packaging, production, distribution, sales and marketing, to the consumption of our products. The purpose of the Environmental Policy is to prevent and control potential risks to the environment and it is supported by our ambitious targets towards 2022 and 2030 as described in Together Towards ZERO.

The global Together Towards Zero program is also rolled out in Ukraine, with clear quantitative KPI integrated in business process and related to sustainable use of water, decrease in consumption of traditional energy sources and emissions; increase of use of renewable sources of energy etc.

Carlsberg Ukraine has adapted and implemented the Carlsberg Group Environmental Policy: https://carlsberggroup.com/media/17987/environmental-policy.pdf.

Climate change is a pressing issue, so we need to take action.
We will focus on reducing impacts at our breweries – eliminating carbon emissions through the use of climate-friendly technologies, and engaging our value chain to reduce our beer-in-hand carbon footprint.

Water is essential to society, and to making beer. However, today it is not managed optimally in too many areas of the world, and water scarcity is a major concern. Our vision for a better tomorrow is a world in which zero water is wasted. Our ambition is 50% reduction in water usage at Carlsberg Group breweries by 2030.

  • Implementation
  • Description of concrete actions to implement environmental policies, address environmental risks and respond to environmental incidents.

Carlsberg Ukraine managed to achieve a significant cut in the natural gas consumption through using an alternative source of energy - biogas. This is a fermentation product of living organisms produced at sewage plants during the purification of water prior to its release into the municipal sewer. In2017, 12.5% of natural gas consumption was replaced by biogas.

In 2017, Carlsberg Ukraine reduced carbon consumption by 5.35%; and power consumption by 2%.

In 2017 we recycled (refilled) over 150 million glass bottles.

In addition to that, a special focus is placed on the heat generation efficiency, in particular on the efficient conversion of fuel (in this case, natural gas) into thermal energy (steam).

We return water to its natural environment in practically the same state in which we have withdrawn it for internal use. Breweries of Carlsberg Ukraine work using wastewater treatment systems by the German company EnviroChemie, comprising the ASBx vertical anaerobic bioreactor. The treatment plants include mechanical treatment and separation, chemical deacidification, anaerobic treatment and the final water clarification. Carlsberg Ukraine saves water by recycling it for technical needs.

  • Carlsberg Ukraine has translated and implemented Global Anti-Bribarry and Corruption Policy of Carlsberg Group: https://carlsberggroup.com/media/23593/anti-bribery-corruption-policy.pdf.

This policy commits the Carlsberg Group to conducting business ethically and with the utmost integrity in all its operations throughout the world. The policy requires compliance with all applicable laws and regulations on bribery and corruption, including, but not limited to, the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), the UK Bribery Act 2010 (UKBA), and other applicable national anti-bribery statutes and implementing rules and regulations. The purpose of the policy is to outline and explain the prohibitions against bribery and corruption in all of the Carlsberg Group’s operations, to highlight the specific compliance requirements relating to these prohibitions, and to reinforce the Group’s commitment to conducting business globally with the highest level of honesty and integrity. Violating applicable anti-corruption laws potentially exposes the Group, its employees and any third-party intermediaries (regardless of nationality or location of residence) to significant criminal and civil liability, fines and penalties. Notwithstanding the above, the rationale for this policy is not just legal compliance: corruption is a major obstacle to poverty reduction and, by endorsing this policy, ExCom reiterates its strong commitment to adhering to the relevant standards set out in the United Nations Convention Against Corruption. The Carlsberg Group must not authorize or tolerate any business practice that does not comply with this policy.
