The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre has officially launched the
world’s first website devoted to the topic of business and human rights: www.business-humanrights.org.
The site offers news and
information on the worldwide social and environmental activities of most major
multinational companies. It further contains regularly updated links to a wide
range of materials published by the United Nations and other intergovernmental
organisations, companies and business organisations, NGOs, policy experts and
academics, social investment analysts, journalists, governments and
courts.
The site currently contains materials in English, Spanish,
French, Portuguese and German. Updated hourly, it receives over 47,000 visits
per month.
New features introduced
include:
> Weekly Updates -
including company responses: The Business & Human Rights Resource
Centre plans to send free alerts – highlighting top stories of the week – to
thousands of decision-makers worldwide. To promote balance and encourage
companies to address issues raised, they will invite companies to reply to items
criticizing their conduct. A sign-up form is available on the website (www.business-humanrights.org) of the Business and Human Rights
Resource Centre, which plans to send out the first update in early
February.
> 2000 individual
company sections: The site includes information about 2000 companies, including
news articles and information provided by the companies themselves. The website
also indicates whether or not a company is a Global Compact
participant.
> A section on
Business & the UN Millennium Development Goals.
