To promote greater awareness of and support for the Global Compact among
Italian companies and their partners in developing countries, the Italian
Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to finance a major technical cooperation
project titled “Sustainable Development through the Global
Compact.”
The project, which will be executed by the International
Labour Organization (ILO), will target mainly small and medium enterprises
operating in Italy and selected developing countries, encouraging them to adopt
policies and practices in line with universal corporate social responsibility
principles as reflected in the Global Compact, the ILO Tripartite Declaration of
Principles concerning Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy and the OECD
Guidelines on Multinational Enterprises. By participating in the Global Compact,
Italian enterprises will be able to share their experience with their
counterparts in the developing world and will be encouraged to take part in
public-private partnerships. The project will work in close collaboration with
employers’ organizations, trade unions and regional and local governments, as
well as civil society organizations interested in promoting corporate social
responsibility.
An Italian Global Compact web portal will be
established to facilitate access by Italian companies and other interested
parties to good practice examples elsewhere and to share examples from the
Italian corporate world.
Please contact Ms. Paola Pinoargote (pinoargote@ilo.org) at the ILO for more
