Speaking at the Annual Award Dinner of the United States Council for International Business (USCIB) at New York’s Waldorf-Astoria, U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan praised DuPont Chairman and CEO Chad Holliday for supporting the Global Compact and promoting corporate citizenship around the world. Annan was one of several leaders honoring Holliday, who received USCIB’s 2003 International Leadership Award at the event. Addressing USCIB members and guests, the Secretary-General said that Holliday "has recognized the need for corporations to practice global citizenship, and to be seen as part of the solution to global problems, rather than obstacles to progress." Mr. Annan also called for more business involvement, stressing the role of the Global Compact as a platform to ensure “that markets remain open and globalization works for all people."
