On 6 June, a high-level meeting on the Global Compact will be convened in Russia, hosted by the Russian Union of Entrepreneurs and Industrialists; the Global Compact Steering Committee – Russia; an the UN/UNDP Country Office Russia.
The meeting, to be held in Nizhny Novgorod, is a follow-up to the launch of the Global Compact in Russia, which took place in Moscow on 19 November 2001 and was chaired by Russia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Ivanov, and UN Deputy Secretary-General Louise Frechette.
The high-level meeting will be attended by Mr. Kririenko, representative of Russian Federation President Putin; Mr. Issaev, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade; Mr. Denissov, Deputy Foreign Minister; Mr. Khordorkovski, chair of the Global Compact Steering Committee – Russia; and Mr. Volzhki, chair of the Russian Union of Entrepreneurs and Industrialists.
In addition, senior management of major Russian companies – including Yukos, Lukoil, Russian Aluminiun, Interros – along with executives from international companies operating in Russia will be joined by more than 100 national and regional business leaders to discuss the Global Compact and its practical application; to review current development; and to explore a set of new CSR initiatives that address national and regional needs and realities.
