On April 25, the All India Management Association (AIMA) convened a meeting in New Delhi at which a national Declaration on Corporate Citizenship was adopted urging companies to participate in the Global Compact.
Approximately 150 participants attended the meeting, including leaders from a spectrum of Indian companies. Presentations were made by six companies: Tata Group; Adiatya Birla Group; Wipro; ONGC; IOC; and BHEL.
The so called New Delhi Declaration on Corporate Citizenship encourages companies to participate in the Global Compact, stating: “In the context of corporate citizenship, the Global Compact initiated by the United Nations Secretary General provides an international platform for networking and exchanging experiences with organizations throughout the world. Indian companies should join this network and take up projects and activities in pursuance of these principles and community”.
