IX Annual Local Networks Forum

The 9th Annual Local Networks Forum (ALNF) will take place during UN Global Compact Week. This year, the ALNF will convene in Copenhagen, Denmark on the 19th of May and is expected to be attended by 300-400 participants from local networks and businesses. This promises to be the largest ALNF to be held so far by the Global Compact. Local Networks Regional Meetings will convene on the 20th of May following the ALNF.

The 9th ALNF will provide business and Local Networks representatives the opportunity to share learnings and exchange experiences. The event will feature a discussion with Global Compact LEAD companies on empowering Local Networks through subsidiary engagement.

The ALNF will have a mix of plenary and break-out sessions addressing the issue of network and business sustainability and other areas of mutual benefit. In addition, a session will focus on the role of civil society organizations and governments in the Local Networks. Several topics related to the ten principles will also be presented by champion networks. In addition new resources will be presented by the Global Compact.

The ALNF will launch formal dialogue among Global Compact constituents on sustainable development and the preparation for Rio+20. In particular the Regional Meetings will allow Local Networks to capture their collective input and priorities in this area.

Local Network Interface

A new addition to the ALNF programme, the Local Network Interface are sessions that various Global Compact working groups and issue platforms will devote specifically to Local Networks. During these sessions, the working groups and issue platforms will focus their presentations on new resources and updates most relevant to Local Networks. The Local Network Interfaces will occur throughout the day on Tuesday 17 May 2011.
