The Global Compact in Russia

The Global Compact in Russia was launched in November 2001 during a round table organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs in partnership with UNDP and other UN agencies.

Since then Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs jointly with UNDP have focused their efforts on developing an active network in Russia.  In October 2006 they organized a conference to promote principles for responsible investing to facilitate regional development in Russia. The event brought together 200 participants representing leading Russian and international companies, government, NGOs, international organisations and UN agencies. Participants agreed to further promote corporate responsibility in Russia, to establish a Global Compact network by the end of 2006 and to focus their initial activities on training companies on the Communication on Progress and, jointly with ILO, on labour principles.
