The Global Compact in Japan
Website: http://www.unic.or.jp/globalcomp/index.htm
Under the stewardship of UNIC in Tokyo, the Global Compact Network Japan was
officially launched on 21 December 2003. The Network will work to develop a
unique approach to meet the needs of Japanese business leaders and strengthen
partnerships with business organizations and other CSR-related groups in Japan
and around the world and provide companies an opportunity to share their
experiences and practices through a range of activities including study and
briefing sessions.
The Global Compact Japanese Network agreement “Kiyaku” (http://www.unic.or.jp/globalcomp/gcjn.htm) provides that a company or any other group from Japan is required to present its intention to join the Global Compact for the consideration and acceptance of the Global Compact Japanese Network. The sign (~) before a Japanese participant appearing in the official list of participants of the Global Compact Office indicates that it has not gone, as yet, through the procedure outlined in the GCJN agreement
