VII Annual Local Networks Forum - Istanbul

Over 320 participants representing 77 Global Compact Local Networks attended this year's VII Annual Local Network Forum, held in Istanbul, Turkey on 9-10 June 2009. The two-day Forum saw a variety of presentations and discussions covering a wide range of issues, from network management to the networks' practices in advancing the Global Compact's core issue areas.

The Global Compact Local Networks agreed on a set of recommendations concerning the role of networks in companies' Communication on Progress, the engagement of micro enterprises (businesses with less than 10 employees); the engagement of civil society organizations; and the governance of networks. The recommendations had been developed by four network working groups established  at the 2008 ALNF in Bonn, Germany.

The VII ALNF 2009 was convened by the UN Global Compact Office with the collaboration the Fundació Fòrum - Barcelona Center for the Support of the Global Compact and with the generous support of the following organisations: Sabanci Holding, Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, China Development Bank, Gulor and the Spanish Embassy in Istanbul.
