Human Rights Working Group Seeks to Identify and Endorse Good Practices
The Global Compact Human Rights Working Group is seeking to identify and endorse good practices by companies and stakeholders in the implementation of the human rights principles. For the purposes of this submission process, good practices should draw on the experiences of many companies and should not be a case study on the experience of one particular company. All UN Global Compact participants and stakeholders are invited to submit proposals, which should include the following elements: (i) process for developing the proposal; (ii) demonstrate how the proposed good practice has been tested and is supported by key affected stakeholder groups (some stages may only involve one stakeholder group); (iii) clear linkages to human rights; (iv) expected outcome and impacts. More information.
Contribute to the Embedding Human Rights into Business Practice Series
The Global Compact Office is seeking expressions of interest from: 1) graduate students to author case studies and 2) companies to be the subject of a case study and participate in a peer review of case studies. Case studies detail efforts by Global Compact participant companies to respect and support human rights, including lessons learned. These will be published in the future volumes of the Embedding Human Rights into Business Practice series. For more information and a list of profiled companies see Business Practices.
Corporate Efforts to Respect and Support Children’s Rights
Global Compact participants are invited to submit examples of their efforts to respect and support children's rights – to be included in a compilation of good practices. Examples can include company efforts to: combat child labour, promote child protection, ensure child safety, respect children's rights in advertising and marketing, and support the child-related Millennium Development Goals.
For further information or to submit an example, please contact Anita Househam (househam@un.org).
Low-Carbon Leaders Project: Call for Submissions and Feedback
The Low-Carbon Leaders Project (LCLP), a collaboration between Caring for Climate and the World Wildlife Fund, is an open source, multi-media platform aimed at capturing and sharing transformative low-carbon solutions. LCLP has issued twelve illustrative cases and toolkits for calculating the impacts of energy efficient solutions; additionally LCLP has collected nearly 60 low-carbon solutions estimated to help avoid over 10 million tonnes of CO2 emissions. Phase two of the LCLP – Beyond Carbon – has been launched aimed at highlighting innovative clusters that deliver solutions toward achieving sustainable development goals in the areas of food and water sustainability; mobility and communication; health; and temperature, light and shelter. Beyond Carbon focuses on how such clusters can be created, how the uptake of transformative solutions can be accelerated and how the ongoing rapid urbanization can be used as a driver for such solutions.
LCLP encourages Caring for Climate signatories to submit, rate and comment on low-carbon solutions. To access the mobile application to rate these solutions and for more information on Beyond Carbon, please visit the LCLP website.

Support Sustainable Development: Partnership Opportunities for Business
While it has been over a decade since world leaders committed to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), much remains to be done to reach these critical milestones. Business leaders must intensify their efforts to help combat global poverty, hunger and disease and are encouraged to make a new commitment in support of the MDGs. You may wish to consider engaging in existing partnership opportunities across the UN System – which both contribute to the MDGs and could benefit from additional corporate participation.
We encourage you to review the prepared list of partnership opportunities from across the UN System and learn more about how your organization can get involved.
Responsible Business in Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas: Pilot Project
Building on the recent launch of the "Guidance on Responsible Business in Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas: A Resource for Companies and Investors", the Global Compact and the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) are establishing a pilot group of companies and investors willing to actively implement the Guidance and report on lessons learned. The aim of the pilot project is to develop a better understanding of what the Guidance means in practical terms across different operating environments and how companies from different sectors can best implement.
All Global Compact participants interested in joining this pilot project should contact Adrienne Gardaz (gardaz@un.org).

All examples should be submitted according to this template.

Comment on Discussion Paper: IIRC Integrated Reporting
Integrated Reporting demonstrates the linkages between an organization’s strategy, governance and financial performance and the social, environmental and economic context within which it operates. By reinforcing these connections, Integrated Reporting can help business to take more sustainable decisions and enable investors and other stakeholders to understand how an organization is performing. By addressing the material issues for an organization, an Integrated Report should demonstrate in a clear and concise manner an organization’s ability to create and sustain value in the short, medium and longer term.
The International Integrated Reporting Committee is calling for feedback on its discussion paper Towards Integrated Reporting - Communicating Value in the 21st Century. Learn more about the discussion paper consultation. Please contact Jerome Lavigne-Delville (lavigne@un.org) for more information.
