What is a Case Story?
Case Stories are an important component of the Global Compact as a learning platform, allowing
participants to share their experiences and practices in the implementation of the Global Compact principles. A Case Story is a five to ten-page
description of a particular approach, process, or activity related to the Global Compact's
objectives. More specifically, Case Stories
- describe experiences encountered and lessons learned and therefore can be used as a learning
tool by other companies and stakeholders.
- include pending questions and challenges identified by the company.
Ideally, Case Stories are developed and drafted in close collaboration with an outside
partner, such as an academic institution or a civil society organization.
How does a case story differ from a COP?
Unlike a Communication on Progress, a Case Story typically focuses on a particular issue area
(i.e. human rights, labour, environment and/or anti-corruption) and provides an in-depth
description and analysis of a specific process, action or project.
The Global Compact Office encourages and welcomes the development of Case Stories. If you
would like to share your organization's experience in implementing the UN Global Compact
principles, please submit your Case Story on the UN Global Compact website or send an e-mail to
case@unglobalcompact.org.
